Things to Consider When Selecting a Wedding Venue

December 22, 2019

Wedding venue selecting process

When selecting a wedding venue, consider the following:

  1. Location: Choose a venue that is conveniently located for you and your guests. Additionally, consider the accessibility and proximity to transportation options.
  2. Capacity: Ensure that the venue can comfortably accommodate the number of guests you plan to invite. Avoid overcrowding or having a space that feels too empty.
  3. Amenities: Check what amenities the venue offers, such as parking, restrooms, bridal suites, and on-site catering facilities.
  4. Flexibility: Determine if the venue allows flexibility in terms of decor choices, vendors, and layout arrangements. This will enable you to personalize your wedding to your liking.
  5. Budget: Set a clear budget and inquire about the venue’s pricing structure. Ask if there are any additional fees or charges to consider.
  6. Catering Options: Find out if the venue provides in-house catering or allows you to bring in your preferred caterer. Consider any restrictions or requirements they may have.
  7. Weather Considerations: If you plan to have an outdoor wedding, ensure that the venue has a backup plan in case of inclement weather.
  8. Ambiance: Visit the venue in person to get a sense of its atmosphere and ambiance. Determine if it aligns with the style and theme you envision for your wedding.
  9. Reviews and Recommendations: Read reviews and seek recommendations from other couples who have used the venue. This can provide valuable insights into their experiences.
  10. Availability: Check the venue’s availability on your desired wedding date. Popular venues tend to book quickly, so it’s essential to inquire early.
  11. Contracts and Policies: Review the venue’s contracts thoroughly. Pay attention to cancellation policies, restrictions, and any fine print before making a commitment.
  12. Parking and Transportation: Assess the parking options available at the venue for your guests. Additionally, consider nearby transportation options for the convenience of your attendees.
  13. Guest Experience: Put yourself in the shoes of your guests and consider their experience at the venue. Think about their comfort, convenience, and overall enjoyment.

By considering these factors and taking the time to research and visit potential venues, you can make an informed decision and select a wedding venue that will be the perfect backdrop for your special day.

Finding the right wedding venue takes a lot of time

Finding the right wedding venue takes a lot of time and research and can often be one of the hardest parts of planning a wedding. You need to make sure that your venue ticks all the right boxes before you make a final decision.

Your venue will influence your budget as well as the atmosphere on the day so before you sign on the dotted line, below are three important things to consider before you decide on your wedding venue.

Venue size.

Look at how many people you’re planning to invite to your wedding versus the number of people the venue can comfortably cater for. A crowded reception can be quite uncomfortable and if a venue is too large, it can affect the atmosphere and the overall look and feel. Put an initial guest list together before you start venue shopping so that you can make a better decision.

What about the drinks?

Alcohol and drinks are a big part of your wedding so it’s important to find out whether you can bring your own alcohol and what the costs are or if the venue will supply the drinks. Since you will also need a licensed bartender to serve alcohol, find out whether the venue can assist with this so that you can factor those costs into your final budget.

Preferred vendors.

You’re going to be working with several different vendors in the time leading up to and on your wedding day. Many venues require you to use their vendors so find out about this before you make a booking. If they do work with specific vendors, make sure that you’re happy with their experience, style, personality, and pricing. When a venue works with preferred vendors, it does mean they’re confident in their experience and ability to delivery but it’s more important for you to choose vendors that fit in with your budget and overall preferences.

There are many different factors to consider when choosing the perfect wedding venue but make sure that it’s a space that speaks to your personalities and style as a couple.

Happy planning !
