Tell me about your business? What about your business do you love the most? What services do you offer?
Tamara Makeup and hair artistry is a on location hair and makeup company. We specialize in bridal hair and makeup! We have been doing both hair and makeup for 13 years now in the Chicagoland area. We love every minute of it!
Since we have been around for so long, something we absolutely love is getting to see bridesmaids who we were able to glam up as part of a bridal party, and then having us for their wedding day! We get to see many of them throughout the years. For hair and makeup for family photos, later baby showers, and any other important events in their life. It’s so much fun getting to follow their journey!
I would say that the biggest struggle for brides when planning their wedding would be…
That they don’t know where to start. I love to help brides not only get hair and makeup booked, but I love to help refer them to amazing vendors too!
What inspired me to do this, and go full-time with it?
I actually started back in 2004 as a full time makeup artist at MAC Cosmetics! I knew within the first few months bridal was my passion! I did SO many brides and weddings while at MAC until one year I did 67 weddings and realized it was time to make doing weddings a full time job!
What are some questions that you get from brides inquiring?
We often get asked if we have worked with dry skin, thinning hair, super curly hair, the list goes on and on and the answer is… YES! Doing thousands of services each year, we get to work with so many skin tones, textures, hair types, ect. It really gives us a great experience! We always update our Instagram on a daily basis so we find that many of our brides get a peak at our style, which we like to call ‘Romantic Glam’!
What is unique about your approach?
We have fun! We are very straightforward about arrival times, set up needs, and what we need from the clients throughout, since we do this every weekend if they follow our advice the day goes smoothly and we like to laugh and celebrate along with them!
What are the most important things brides need to know if they aren’t hiring a hair and makeup artist?
Experience in this industry is key. With YouTube, there is definitely a spike in ‘self taught’. That is not always a negative, I would advise to be careful. Especially when glamming yourself for important life events.
What should couples know about your process and about working with you?
We have a very streamlined experience, from booking / availability , to a ‘Now that you are booked’ that helps walk you through the time leading up to your big day! We call the client the week off the wedding and to go over all final details. Of course we love meeting our brides at their trial! We LOVE working with other amazing vendors and feeding off of their creativity and energy!
How early should couples book you to ensure you’ll be available for their wedding day?
We book a maximum of 13 months out, we usually book up very quickly!
What is one tip or piece of advice you’d give a couple for their wedding day?
Listen to the advice of the experts! We do this every weekend, and it always goes smoother when you are able to follow our tips for the day of!
